AD Long Masters Winners and Junior Winners
A weekend of winners both young and not so young. A team of 4 – Gary Duberly, Paul Tuffin, Mark Waldin and Gavin Packer headed to Kamo to compete in the AD Long club team masters tournament which was hosted by Kamo. There was no room for injury or been tired as there were no reserves to call on. Their first opponents on Friday night were Mania one of the local clubs in Whangarei. It was to be a 4/0 victory for North Shore. They then had to take on last years winners Silverdale. Again the Shore made it a clean sweep winning in 4. The finals were scheduled for 1.30pm on Sunday and North Shore were to take on another Auckland club Papakura 1. Gavin had a hard match and was unable to convert it in to a win. Gary, Paul and Mark were able to convert their games to wins and the North Shore are the holders of the AD Long Masters trophy for 2017. Congratulations to the team.
Sunday was a day for the annual MAAT junior 1 day tournament. With the sponsor away playing in Kamo but supporting the event from afar. 54 juniors came and took to the courts. From 9am in the morning till 5.30pm they all competed and the talent of the juniors was on show. Jared Menezes was one of the first players on the court seeded 6th in Division 1 and he toppled the number 1 seed. There were many divisions were the lower seeded players managed to upset their higher ranked players. The girls division 2 was a close fought division. All 3 girls on the championship side had a win each. This then meant to find the placings it went to count back. An enjoyable day and great day to be inside at times to watch our up and coming players. Results
