I grew up playing squash and coming through the various junior programs at the mighty North Shore club. I love to see new members embracing the club culture and getting involved in what we have to offer. We are one of the biggest and best clubs in Auckland with some of the highest participation rates in the country. I want to see squash continue to grow at North Shore and help foster our members love for the game.
I Joined NSSC in late July 2019 as Bar & Functions Manager. My favourite thing about the club would be the friendly vibe that we have buzzing around. I always make a point of introducing new members to our fellow members, who always make me proud of how welcoming they are! My goal is to see the club continue growing and thriving is to provide an increase in daily and corporate functions that we host. I am hopeful that a few visual & décor additions on the deck would attract those summer weddings with a gorgeous view of the lake on Auckland’s finest summer days.
I have played squash in the UK purely as a social sport during the winter months but since moving to NZ squash has become my main sport of choice (Not that I am any good! Just average out of shape C1 Masters). I have been at North Shore Squash Club for 14 years with the involvement of 10 – 12 years, from running club nights to tournaments, and of course, supporting the club in its endeavours to remain the best squash club in Auckland and of course New Zealand.
My role as Club President is to ensure that NSSC remains the top squash club in the Greater Auckland area, and one of the best facilities in New Zealand that reflects the standards set in its constitution.
Personal Highlights while at the Mighty NSSC for me during my continued membership are managing to play at least 3 times a week and to visit the bar at least 3 times a week. Personal Highlights are being part of an awesome club effort in hosting the World Masters Games in 2017, and winning Harbour Sport volunteer of the Year 2017 https://www.squashnz.co.nz/news/index.cfm?content_id=4363
I have been playing squash since I was 12 so it will be 45 years this year. I believe NSSC is the best club in NZ. It has the most amazing facilities, great views and position and awesome people which makes for a superb club culture. I've been with the club for about 19 years and started doing the accounts as Treasurer back in about 2011/2012. For the future, I think we need to keep evolving and investigating ways to attract good quality people, not only as players and gym members but also on the social side using the amazing facilities (courts, bar and functions) so we maintain a great balance, amazing culture. It’s an honour to be a NSSC member
I have been involved in squash for 17 months starting in October 2019! From that moment I was in love & addicted to the game! What I most love about NSSC is how friendly and respectful everyone is and how everyone has made me feel included as a part of this family. My role on the committee is that of Female club captain. My aspirations for the club are to develop a strong engagement of the sport from all our members wherever we are representing our club and NSSC community. I wear our shirt and feel proud to be part of our club!
I'm a people person which naturally means I love spending time with friends, playing squash and getting away from the city to explore the amazing country as often as possible. Since moving to New Zealand, I've found a love of fishing and free diving to add to my hobbies. I am an environmental engineer specialising in health and safety. I am passionate about sustainability and am currently in an auditing role focusing on Carbon and EMS programs with the amazing Toitū Envirocare team.
I have been a Member of the NSSC since 1995. I have served as a committee member, President, and I am a current Life Member. I have run Junior Squash for several years and became an enthusiastic master’s player who is always proud to wear the NSSC logo. I negotiated with the WDHB to build the Gymnasium for the free benefit of NSSC members. I headed the committee entrusted with organising the 50-year anniversary of the NSSC. I am very keen that the club continues to recognise the legacy left by past members through continuing to expand our offerings to members to grow our base.
I first started playing squash when I was at school, many years ago now! Recently, I have been playing for the last 3 years or so. I really love the welcoming and friendly atmosphere at NSSC. It is a very inclusive club where everyone is made to feel welcome and part of the NSSC Whānau. I am a committee member at NSSC, and keen to meet even more awesome people. I would really like to see NSSC gain recognition for being Auckland's number 1 Club! We can do it!
I started playing squash in my college days in Pakistan. In a cricket dominated society I loved the game of squash and it became my main sport. I migrated to Australia in 1997 for studies where I participated in inter universities squash competition. I continued playing from Beachaven squash club in 2006 and 2007.
I started playing again when I joined North Shore Squash Club in 2019. I love the culture and community here. In 2020 the club presented me an opportunity to participate at the National D Grade championship in Blenheim. I also won the most improved squash male player award this year.
North Shore Squash Club is a great place to play sport, meet friendly people, socialize, and grow your squash skills. It is time to give back to this amazing club and contribute in any way I can, it is my objective to contribute to making the club a conducive place to learn and play squash. I would like to work with young players to further their squash skills. I am learning the general business of how the club is being run and actively looking for avenues where I can contribute.
My family have been members at NSSC since 2011 and I have been a member of the NSSC Committee for the last 2 years. Our family is part of the North Shore's large community of ex-South Africans, having immigrated to New Zealand in 2001 with my partner Richard and our children Dale and Tessa.
After 25 years in leadership roles in the corporate environment, I recently started my own small Business Coaching consultancy. As a current member of the board of Squash NZ, I am keen to hear your squash stories. Feel free to stop me and talk to me courtside, or if you have pressing club issues that you want to be addressed, email me at email@example.com. See you court side.
