NSSC Junior Squash Program
Junior Club Night Junior Interclub Junior Academy
NSSC has always had a strong junior membership which the club and committee continue to foster
and build upon. Many of New Zealand’s prominent squash players have passed through our club
doors and benefited from the junior programs.
The club has a number of developed relationships with local schools, including Westlake Girls & Boys
High, Carmel College, Rosmini College, Murrays Bay & Takapuna Intermediate, and Milford Primary
school. Our facilities are made available to these schools to aid with the promotion and introduction
of squash and train their teams. NSSC is proud to host the inter-school squash competition, which
welcomes schools from the Auckland area.
Junior Club Night:

Friday evenings, during the school term, are dedicated to the juniors. Ranging from beginners at the
foundation level to intermediate and advancing juniors of all levels, the evening focuses on active
participation engagement with the game and connecting the skills learned in sessions to the games
played. Attended by 10-20 juniors each week the courts are busing with juniors having loads of fun.
Our aim is to introduce as many kids as possible to squash and help develop their love and passion
for the game, in a fun and friendly environment.
Friday Evening Structure

Beginners under 10 years
5pm - 6pm
Intermediate/Advanced players over 10 years
Junior Interclub

Squash interclub is what you are looking for:
“The aim of this competition is to provide an environment for juniors to play regular squash matches
– to learn how to play, compete, referee, and grow in one of the worlds widely played and best
games – squash”

Junior Academy
Coach: Paul Hornsby
For those juniors who are enjoying their time on the court and are wanting to improve their skills and
move up the grading, NSSC offers the perfect junior academy pathway. Run by one of NZ’s best
squash coaches, it's split into 3 groups: Development squad 1 (J Grade) & 2 (E-D grade) and the
performance squad (C grade & above). Training 1-2 times per week in small groups 4-8 juniors, this
coaching is more individualized, and improvements are guaranteed.
Coaching includes:
Swing and Shot technique
Movement
Tactics
Routines and drills
Matchplay & Fitness
Thursday afternoon:
4:15 pm – 5 pm Development Squad 1
5 pm – 5:45 pm Development Squad 2
5:45 pm – 6:45 pm Performance Squad
Our NSSC Junior Academy often picks 1-2 junior tournaments to travel away to each year as a team.
Events include North Island Junior Open and Junior Nationals. These events give the academy
something to focus their training towards, working together to fundraise and some amazing squash
memories.
